The Bedroom Machine® addresses the broadest spectrum of air cleaning by removing sub-micron particles including allergens and asthma irritants, noxious gases, odors and chemicals. Austin Air’s 360-degree intake system draws air into all sides of the Bedroom Machine®, passing it through a comprehensive 5 stages of filtration.
The filter has a true medical grade HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Arresting) filter surrounded by a blend of carbon and zeolite. It also uses a military-grade high efficiency gas adsorption (HEGA) filter as well.
The HEGA cloth in the Austin Air Bedroom Machine® was initially developed by the British Armed Forces in the 1970s as protection against chemical and gas warfare. It was initially used - and still is to this day - as a protective layer in military clothing and masks to protect against chemical, biological, radioactive, and nuclear (CBRN) agents. A single gram of HEGA cloth has a surface area equivalent to half the size of a football field. Currently, Austin Air is the ONLY air cleaner in the United States that makes a portable, home air purifier with a HEGA filter.

What are the filter specifications?
Austin Air’s 360-degree intake system draws air into all sides of the HealthMate Plus®, passing it through a 5-stage filter.
- STAGE 1 – Large Particle Pre-filter. Removes particles easily seen by the naked eye (e.g. dust, hair and pet dander)
- STAGE 2 – Medium Particle Pre-filter. Removes small to medium size particles (e.g. molds, spores and pollen)
- STAGE 3 – Over 780 cubic inches of Activated Carbon and Zeolite Removes chemicals, gases and odors
- STAGE 4 – 60 sq. ft. of True Medical Grade HEPA. Removes 99.97% of all particles larger than 0.3 microns and 99% of all particles larger than 0.1 microns.
